Description
Many Southern cooks use an often tricky caramel-fudge recipe to frost their cakes; this one opts for caramel syrup throughout, for flavor and moisture. The rich, tender layers are stacked and coated in a generous layer of brown butter frosting. For a final garnish, make a double batch of the caramel syrup so there's enough to drizzle over the top of the cake (see “tips,” below for details). All together, this caramel layer cake is an elegant showstopper.
