With a layer of tangy lemon curd underneath a plethora of buttery crumbs, this lemon coffee cake walks a fine line between coffee cake and Danish. The lemon curd slightly bakes into the cake, and the crumbs slightly bake into the lemon curd, which means that every luscious piece is one part tender, one part tart, and one part crunchy. Along with the lemon flavor from the curd, the cake is enhanced with lemon zest and lemon paste, plus hints of ginger and cardamom.
