Description

Most countries in Asia have their own version of the egg roll, but I don't think it'll come as a surprise to say that I think our version is best. Vietnamese egg roll wrappers are paper-thin and can be made of wheat or rice. They're super crunchy and allow you to really taste the fillings inside.  But what's considered a spring roll and what's an egg roll? And what about summer rolls? Or imperial rolls? It's a pretty hot debate amongst Asians. And the classification can be entirely regional, even throughout Vietnam.  Gỏi cuốn directly translates to salad rolls. And they're what I refer to as spring rolls — fresh rolls made with a rice paper wrapper. I consider egg rolls to be rolls that are fried. People may debate me, but hey, this is my take.
