The following recipe marks King Arthur's very first venture onto the Internet — we obtained this wonderful rye bread from a Russian student at Moscow State University, via the web, back in late 1995 (and he in turn found the recipe in "Please to the Table: the Russian Cookbook," by Anya Von Bremzen). While actually a native Latvian bread, Russians as well have long enjoyed this loaf.
